Tennis

Today
walked I alongside
hedgerow
next to sea

all sweaty & calm

when a white butterfly
from the green magic'd
& buttered about my breast

I smiled
, like fairy lights,
& kept walking on

when another &
they twirled—
swiping the air
back & forth
in delicate tennis—

A third from behind
to join, to combine
this waltz by my strides

beneath a nose propped
with grin feeling
the smallest of fans

We went like this
the four of us
for steps

until they melted
back into the bush,

as I left them
like children at the school gates.
